It all started one summers day in ’98. August 1st, to be precise. Chris, Joe and Chris had nothing to do because their old band Chopper had split up in May of that year so they decided to have a go at doing something a bit different. They’d been playing pop punk songs at 10,000mph since 1993 and needed a change. They decided the speed should be about 35mph, brushed the cobwebs off a few ditties they’d had in their back pockets got their mate Paul to stop fishing and play drums and Pylon was born.
The first gig was at Players in Wakefield, the second at the Royal Park in Leeds. Don’t remember the third and fourth (too many drugs) and the fifth was with Fugazi at the Leeds Met. We shat our pants! Many many many more gigs happened over the next couple of years with lots of great band. Our first release was a 6 song self–titled mini album released on the now defunct Subjugation Records in 2000. We played more gigs and then some more and in 2002 got Rob from Nathaniel Green in to play piano and released a 4 song E.P called "2400 Volts" on the then brand new label, ours being their first release, Jealous Records. We then did a European tour which was really great until we got home and had all our equipment stolen from the van. This fucked us all up a bit. But we carried on regardless playing and playing and playing (once we’d replaced the gear that is!) and never stopped enjoying it for one minute. We were going to list the bands that we’d shared a stage with but it’s still being written from memory and that could take sometime, but it’ll be up here sometime soon. Not to for the purpose of bragging but sometime it’s nice to write a list of things you’ve done so you don’t forget.
Our new album "The Standard Fight" is out now on Gravity Dip Records. The first pressing is a limited edition Double CD.
Reviews
"With Nathaniel Green’s Rob Taylor now in their ranks, Pylon, the British kings of indie guitar pop once again provide 4 songs of exuberantly sunny melodies. With their sweet but powerful tunes they have the potential of driving a smile on your lips. Even us naturally cold hearted and humorless Northern Germans can’t resist this little piece of gold. Enough talk, need to listen to it again"

"Just four songs are on the new EP by Pylon, and nevertheless it has everything to burn itself into your memories. This band, has toured with Gameface, plays just like Nathaniel Green who I really like, this fragile British sound…this is obvious on the calmest and saddest of the 4 songs, on "Walking Lights": This song could be one by Elliott Smith…The other tracks have more space for the guitar's rock and noise, but this can’t change the melancholic mood of this 15 minutes. In the end this is really nice music"
